STUDIO ENVIRONMENT
The studio at Jennifer Fergus Creative is an in-home studio for smaller, more timid pets.

MY METHODS
STUDIO
When working with animals, giving direction is not really an option. In the studio I alternate between waiting patiently while your pet plays, sniffs around or does whatever else is of interest and asking for their attention while taking pictures. This has proven to be the most successful method for getting the best results. This method of working ensures the comfort of your animal. Usually they leave thinking they've had a play date complete with tons of treats and attention.

Sessions run about an hour long but can sometimes run longer. Keep in mind this does not include the time I take to introduce myself to your pet or acclimate them to the studio. Acclimation is an important part of the process that I never rush. Your pet needs to feel comfortable in the studio and they need trust me. I am never on a deadline; if there is a need for a walk, potty or play break, it can be taken without any worry of cutting into your studio time. I work on animal time and only shoot one session a day for this reason.

ON-LOCATION
If the shoot takes place in your home, I will place your pet in an area near a large window with good light and lurk around as they go about their daily business. I capture them in their natural environnment whether it be napping in a favorite bed, playing with a well-loved toy or running freely in the backyard. The on-location sessions don't have to be at your home either; you can opt to meet at your pet's favorite park or another location of your choosing.

EQUINE
Equine sessions can be run either as a studio session or as an on-location session. As a studio session I will bring my studio to you and photograph your horse in my studio style using my strobe lights. Or you can opt for more photo journalistic photos and choose an on-location style session where I will photograph your horse in their natural element, such as grazing in a pasture or being lead down a path.

Equine sessions tend to run about an hour long for on-location style and two to three hours long for studio style due to studio set-up time, but either session can sometimes run longer. Keep in mind this does not include the time I take to introduce myself to your horse or acclimate them to my equipment. Acclimation is an important part of the process that I never rush. Your horse needs to feel comfortable around the equipment and they need to trust me. Having been around horses for more than 20 years, and as a trained English rider, I understand the importance of taking my time with your horse to ensure it's comfort and safety.

CELEBRATION
Celebration sessions are on-location at a favorite park or in the privacy of your own home. I call them "Celebration" sessions because, while these emotional shoots are meant perserve the final days with your elderly or terminally ill pet, above all they are meant to celebrate the time you had together. I can come to your home and capture you and your pet as you are, perhaps lounging on the couch with one another, or playing ball in the backyard, or I can meet you at a location of your choosing. These sessions are about celebrating you and your pet and the life and the love you have shared together. It is an honor for me to offer such a touching yet joyful way to remember your best friend. Due to their nature, these sessions are often scheduled on short notice and are offered at a reduced rate.
